Is It Just Me?

Now into its second week the Thunder Road campaign by Astoria Entertainment still has a long road ahead of them. In support of the campaign the founders of Astoria Entertainment: Steven Grayhm, Charlie Bewley and Matt Dallas have headed out on the road with plans to visit cities not only in the United States, but in Canada and the UK as well. Each new day finds them running themselves ragged trying to spread the word through press interviews, corporate meetings, and fundraising events. And let’s not forget the intrepid endeavors of Charlie’s innovative PR stunt #Sweats4Vets, where each day he jumps rope for hours on end in front of national monuments and corporate buildings.
From its inception Thunder Road has truly been a labour of love, when Steven was inspired to create a script that would truly illustrate the realities veterans face when they return from service. After a…

In Support Of Thunder Road Kickstarter

Is It Just Me?

Crowdfunding has been a hot topic in the media recently; commonly employed by independent filmmakers, crowdfunded campaigns allow the creators to maintain creative control through generous support of backers. As a supporter of independent film, I’ve backed projects on Kickstarter before and wanted to bring attention to an upcoming campaign.

On July 31 Astoria Entertainment launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their very first film Thunder Road. The film is “a no holds barred account of post war life” as described by Astoria co-founder and writer, Steven Grayhm. Grayhm was inspired to create the film because he felt that there was no current films that spoke to the issue of veterans acclimating themselves back into civilian life as well as their issues with mental health including PTSD. “We will work hard everyday to do everything humanly possible to make sure that Thunder Road gives a voice to the ghosts who…

FILM4 FrightFest 2013

FILM4 FRIGHTFEST — 22nd to the 26th of August 2013

“FILM4 FrightFest is the UK’s premiere international fantasy and horror film festival. The festival, now in its 14th year, attracts thousands of genre fans each August to the heart of London’s West End and the prodigious Empire Cinema, for five packed days of premieres, previews, personal appearances, signings and surprises.”

On the 24th of August, Hammer of the Gods will be premiering on the main screen.

Update: Charlie will try to be at the Premiere. Here is his exact tweet, “I will try to be at the Premiere folks. Never 100%, but it’s in the schedule.”

Update 8/22: Charlie’s exact tweet: “Coming to the #HammeroftheGods premiere on Saturday!!”

“Are you up for some gratuitous Saxon violence? Then join us in Britain, 871 AD. Dying King Bagsecg needs reinforcements with a strong leader to cement the Viking position in central Britain. So he sends his son, Steinar, and his brutal associates, Grim, Jokul and Hagen, to find his vicious firstborn Hakan the Ferocious to take on the gathering Saxon armies. Ivar the Boneless is the last man to have seen Hakan alive before he mysteriously disappeared so Steinar sets out on an epic quest to find his long-lost older brother via witch hunts, traitorous battles, converted Christian warriors and enemy back-stabbing. For Hakan is hiding some devastating secrets in this old-fashioned high adventure romp through Beowulf and Game of Thrones style terrain from Farren Blackburn, director of Doctor Who and The Fades, and written by Matthew Read, scripter of the PUSHER remake. It’s HAMMER time, so kiss my axe!”

Make sure you go get tickets if you’re in the area!

Online sales and telephone sales commence from noon the same day:

  • Online tickets can be bought from here. Follow the links from the Empire Cinemas home page.
  • For telephone sales call 08 714 714 714.

Festival passes this year cost £170. Day passes vary in price according to how many films are showing:

  • Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th –  £56
  • Day pass for Monday, 26th – £47
  • Single tickets – £12

“Festival passes allow holders to watch any film playing in the festival. This includes the main, discovery and rediscovery screens. The same applies to day passes, but this obviously is restricted to the day that the ticket is purchased for. Tickets for the discovery and rediscovery screens will be issued on a first come first served basis. Details on how to get the seats will be available nearer the time on the festival website and in the festival printed programme.”

Individual tickets for films will go on sale on the 27th of July at 11:00 AM.

An Interview with ‘Hammer of the Gods’ & ‘Twilight’ Star Charlie Bewley

Update to the Kickstarter, the new launch date is July 31st.

So Fetch Daily

Charlie Bewley, amongst other things, is a vampire. Not really. I don’t think. But he has played one a few times. You might know him as Demetri from the Twilight series or as vampire hunter Galen Vaughn in The Vampire Diaries, but the majority of Bewley’s work isn’t vampire related. I swear. He stars in the recently released action flick Hammer of the Gods and romantic drama Like Crazy, as well as having several other films, including Thunder Road and The Rules of the Game, in the works.

Bewley’s association with The Twilight Saga and The Vampire Diaries has created a devoted and fanatical fan base, but despite his acting success and popularity among legions of fans, Charlie Bewley really is a nice guy and comes across extremely genuine and jovial in conversation. He has a big full laugh that sounds like it comes from the back…

Personal Legend: Charlie Bewley

“I know you’re tired of not fitting in

But it’s not fitting in that will help to begin to show you your beauty”

-Lyrics from Charlie by Ingrid Michaelson

With his piercing blue eyes and looks best described as boyishly handsome mixed with an unpolished ruggedness, it’s easy to understand Charlie Bewley’s appeal. Now put his physicality aside, what would you be left with? Lucky for Charlie there’s more to this man than a pretty face. Best known for his comical antics and light heartedness, it’s easy to dismiss him as nothing more than a good looking guy who caught a break. This couldn’t be further from the truth; with no formal training and an undying desire to fulfill his dreams of ‘doing everything’, Charlie decided he’d become an actor and wouldn’t let anyone stand in his way. The passionate up-and-coming actor takes life in stride and is determined to make the most out of the opportunities he’s been presented with, including his first starring role in the film Hammer of the Gods. There’s a raw honesty that is quintessentially him and shows in his acting; he truly puts himself into his characters.

There’s a thoughtful philosophical mind behind the funny faces and dolphin calls though it may not be as readily accessible. Infectiously charming he is a favorite among the convention set, quickly making new fans with every appearance and photo-op. With a passionate fandom constantly clamoring for a second of his recognition it makes one wonder if he truly comprehends the influence he has. If you were to follow a handful of his fans on twitter you’d witness the constant barrage of tweets directed to him. This in itself isn’t unusual, as social media has made this a commonplace occurrence for celebrities. What makes it unique is the content and more so the intent, with tweets varying from inspirational/motivational quotes to direct solicitation. Each individual for whatever reasons feels a unique connection with the actor. Having been fortunate to meet him I can speak to that sentiment, as Charlie is a genuine down-to-earth person whose passion for life is inspiring; case in point countless women have been motivated to take up running in an attempt to create a common interest with the actor.

You might not think the word patience describes Charlie but having witnessed the grace and composure he possessed during a meeting with a rather passionate fan, it’s more than fitting. In a rare occurrence he was left speechless as the aforementioned fan continued on a tangent about lactose intolerance in Ireland at length! Those present laughingly referred to the phenomenon as ‘Charlie being out-charlied’.

Endearingly vulnerable when he speaks of an incident involving the release of outtakes from a recent photoshoot, it’s clear that he’s still finding his feet in the world of self-promotion. A more serious side can be seen when he discusses his recent experiences with becoming a lead actor, and his co-founded production company Astoria Entertainment embarking on an ambitious Kickstarter campaign to fund their first feature, Thunder Road.

Pleasantly contradicting and more than meets the eye, Charlie is experiencing a career and character defining year, and I for one can’t wait to watch his next chapter unfold.
